The American variety derives from the English cocker, but is smaller, has a finer coat, and is more agile and beautiful. While the English Cocker is still used as a hunter, the American cousin is exclusively a house pet. The American Cocker Spaniel is an extremely sweet dog; happy, playful, poised and neither nervous or Timid. They interface very well with children.
Their silky mantles, which may reach the ground, give them a graceful and distinctive look, with long ears, complete the picture of a curious and delightful animal.
The Cocker is a strong, robust animal and able to run at a pretty good speed. The most common color is black. It should be noted that their coats should be brushed every day, and during the warm months, it is important to examine their ears for ticks or thorns that may lead to infections.
